Dear I-64 Battlefield Boulevard Subscribers,
This weekend marks the first day of fall, and as the leaves begin to change there will also be changes with the VDOT Battlefield Boulevard team.
As many of you are aware I temporarily took over the position left vacant by Rachel Nestor. With the detours and the opening of the first half of the new bridge and corresponding loops, we've all witnessed great changes at the site. The public outreach team and I have done our best to keep you informed. Starting October, the project will have a new contact and her name is Kristen Wells. Kristen will have a great team behind her but she will be the name you will begin to associate with the project.
At this point, if you drive the route regularly, you noticed that both detours were lifted. The team was able to complete the transition a week earlier than they anticipated. Currently the team is in the process of demolishing the old Battlefield Boulevard Bridge to begin construction on the second half of the new bridge.
For next week please be aware of the following lane closures at the I-64 Battlefield Boulevard project for the week of September 24th to September 28th.
I-64 East – Motorists should expect two lane closures and momentary complete closures Monday, September 24 through Thursday, September 27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow the contractor to complete demolition of the old Battlefield Boulevard Bridge.
Battlefield Boulevard – There are no lane closures planned for Battlefield Blvd.
In addition to receiving weekly email updates, please visit www.i64info.com for more information on the project, see construction progress and learn about lane closures and traffic switches. Drivers can also access current traffic information by calling Hampton Roads TrafficLine at 757/361-3016 or listening to 610AM radio for up-to-date traffic reports.
Drive safely and have a great weekend!
