Transportation & Utilities
The level of service offered by Chesapeake's utility providers is second-to-none. We understand that consistent and reliable support in each of the following areas is critical to the success of a world-class business community.
- The City is served by Virginia Power , the state's largest electric utility; industrial rates in Chesapeake are 18% below the national average for customers of investor-owned utilities.
- Natural gas service is provided by Virginia Natural Gas and Columbia Gas of Virginia.
- The City-owned and -operated waterworks system has a storage capacity of nearly 20 million gallons. A new, state-of-the-art water treatment plant will open soon to ensure corporate and private citizens are provided with the highest water quality possible.
- A municipal system provides sewage collection, and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District provides sewage treatment.
- Solid waste disposal service is provided by the Southeastern Regional Public Service Authority.
- Local telecommunications service is provided by Verizon, with substantial fiber optic capabilities throughout the City.
- Interstate Highway 64 originates in Chesapeake; I-264, -464, and -664 also serve the City.
- U.S. Route 58 connects Chesapeake to the principal North/South highways on the East Coast: I-95 and I-85, just west of the City.
- Norfolk International Airport is only 20 minutes away, offering over 190 daily flights. Two general aviation facilities provide corporate flight service within the City.
